Independence Day
On this day, our Founding Fathers declared their independence from the single most powerful nation on the Earth at the time (sorry France). They risked their lives, the lives of their family, and everything they worked for in the name of "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness".
They provided us with a Constitution that has survived for over 200 years and that serves as the backbone of our country. They were sure to explicitly write out our rights within that document to serve notice to a federal government that the tyranny of King George III would not be repeated.
One group of people have allowed us to continue to enjoy the liberties we cherish - veterans and servicemen/women. Without those willing to fight and die for the principles we hold dear, we would either still be part of the British Empire or speaking German or Japanese. They continue the fight all around the globe protecting our nation's interests and bringing freedom to others that are oppressed. We thank them today because without them, the United States of America would have ceased to exist long ago and our rights to "Life, Liberty, and Pursuit of Happiness" would have died along with our country.
Thank you veterans and those that are currently serving in our armed forces!! You never get enough credit for keeping us safe and defending our Constitution!
