Rahming The Health Care Bill Through The House
The other day Obama had a pow-wow with leaders of the House and Senate because of the news that Congress was going to push back the Health Care Bill until after the August recess. God forbid they actually take their time to do something instead of voting on a bill that hasn't been read, let alone printed out in entirety yet.
Now, like a magician pulling a rabbit from a hat, the House says they have a Health Care Bill ready to go. Seems Pelosi and Reid both are still under Obama's, or rather Rahm Emmanuel's, thumb. It's not secret that Rahm Emmanuel has been hammering the phone lines, and visiting Capital Hill on a regular basis trying to get this through Congress.
The price tag still sits at about $1 trillion - which will cover about 1/3 of the 50 million uninsured. Sounds like a start, but not a solution.
You may say, "my word, that is a massive amount of money, how do they ever plan on paying for that?". Half of the payment would be through "savings" in Medicare and Medicaid - no details on what "savings" means. On top of that, Congressional leaders aren't even sure whether that $500 billion is even attainable. The other $500 billion? Oh, they have a way to come up with that...
The dirty secret that they have to own up to now is that they are going to raise taxes on those making more than $350,000 to $500,000 by 1%, $500,000 to $1 million by 1.5% and those making more than $1 million 5.4%. The House is going to target the people that own businesses that you and I and most other people rely on for our jobs. Not to mention that you are raising taxes on the very people the government needs to pump more money into the economy to get it back on it's feet. But they're not stopping there...
Businesses that do not offer health care will be penalized at the equivalent to 8% of the worker's wages. What if you're employer pays the penalty and YOU refuse to get health care. If that happens, then YOU will be taxed/penalized by 2.5% of YOUR income or the average cost of getting insurance, whichever is higher. What happened to not taxing anyone under $250,000??? Oh those silly campaign promises. You know, in the normal world, if someone promises you one thing and does another, that's called a lie. In politics, it's called standard operating procedure.
It does not make a lick of economic sense to raise taxes during a recession. The government should be concentrating their efforts on cutting taxes and government spending and waste. This way, people can use the extra income to pay down debts and splurge on those items they cannot afford to buy right now. Instead, the tyranny of the majority (warned against by John Stuart Mill, et. al.) are bound and determined to redistribute wealth, and create class warfare in the spirit of Das Kapital and the Communist Manifesto to create their version of a socialist democratic utopia. Marx and Engels would be proud.
I swear this administration, and this Congress are hell bent on destroying any vestige of capitalism, economic freedoms, or personal freedoms that we have left. Madison, Plato, Mills and others have all warned about the tyranny of the majority. Unfortunately, we get to see their political theories in action.
