Fat Tax

Many moons ago, I was more than a little miffed at smoking being banned from bars and restaurants.  My theory was that I should be able to sue the community pool because I got wet.  It's a pool, of course you're going to get wet.  Likewise, if you go to a bar, then there is going to be smoke.  They also raised the taxes on a pack of cigs at the same time or shortly after.  What really stuck in my craw was all the non-smokers who were laughing saying they didn't care because it didn't affect them.

I took that criticism and retorted that this was a socialist move as the government was now telling me what I can do and where I can do it.  They laughed at that also.  Then I went on a rant about how taxing how much we weigh was right around the corner.  Once the government starts, they won't stop.  They want to control our minds, bodies, and souls.

I don't hear much laughter now.

It seems that our illustrious government wants to tax soda, candy and other "fattening" foods.  Here comes the fat police.

I'd like to find those people that laughed at my anger and ask them how they like the government being in their kitchens now.

Couple this tax with the government being in the health care industry, how long do you suppose it will be before those of us that are not our ideal weight for our height will be taxed or fined for being over or underweight?  If the government is going to pay for your health insurance, who's to say they can't or won't tell you how much you can weigh?

It's a slippery slope that at first affects a few, then more, then everyone.  By the time it gets past the few, it's too late - precedent has been set and there's one less freedom gone.

This is just one more group or activity that has been vilified by the left.  Remember, the left must ALWAYS have an enemy and must ALWAYS have conflict within society in order to promote their agenda.  We need to fight back on this "fat tax".  What's next?  A Tall Tax?

One final note.  The tobacco tax and "fat tax" are both regressive taxation.  There are more poor people that smoke, drink soda, and eat less healthy than rich people.  Now you can't tax poor people's incomes, but you can back door a tax by taxing what they buy.  Don't think there isn't a method to the left's madness...
