Is Missouri Smarter Than Illinois?
Sometimes I wonder whether Springfield and DC think that the citizens of Illinois are just too stupid and that they have to protect us from ourselves. I look at Missouri and wonder why can't we be like them sometimes.
Population
Mo. - 5.8 million
IL. - 12.8 million
Budget Deficits
Mo. - $462 million
IL. - $11.6 billion
Illinois has a little over twice the population, but our deficit is 25 times or so bigger than Missouri.
Here's a few other issues also where our politicians think we're dumber than our neighbor:
Concealed Carry
Missouri has it, Illinois doesn't. Illinois is one of 11 or so states that refuse conceal carry permits. Only us and Wisconsin have NO conceal carry whatsoever. No coincidence that where there is no/severely restricted concealed carry, those states are considered "progressive" or "blue states". Be sure to click on the above link. There is a list of interesting statistics and a map of conceal car states. Recently, both Sen. Durbin (D) and US Rep. Mark Kirk (R) came out against a federal law requiring reciprocal conceal carry in every state. So instead of getting arrested in IL for bringing your gun across the Mississippi River, you would be ok as long as you have a permit in Missouri. In fact, Durbin believes that concealed carry is a state's rights issue (from a liberal such as he?) not a 2nd Amendment issue. Really Sen. Durbin? The right to bear arms is one of the explicit rights set forth in the Constitution! Why do you think it's #2 in the Bill of Rights behind FREEDOM OF SPEECH?!?! By the way, don't we have reciprocal agreements for driver's licenses? So many different drivers from different states. I just got back from vacation and there are a few states I think everyone's license should be revoked. Springfield does nothing despite a non-binding referendum asking lawmakers to consider conceal carry - which passed overwhelmingly.
Speed Limit
Missouri is 70 mph both truck and car. IL is 65 mph and 55 mph for trucks. Slower traffic kills, not faster. That's one reason the Autobahn has a lower death rate than the US highway system.
And the most important - their Governors never seem to go to jail!!
So is Missouri smarter than Illinois? You tell me. Our politicians seem to think we're dumber than Missouri. Just think, if it wasn't for the geniuses in Springfield we'd all be smoking ourselves to death, fatally shooting those that survived smoking, and killing any survivors of smoking and shooting in a car accident - all while taxing and spending ourselves into oblivion!!!
