State Fair

Downstate went to the State Fair yesterday to attend GOP day.  There were many people there and many of the candidates for Governor, Senate, and other state offices.

We met Dr. Eric Wallace.  Fantastic gentleman and we hope his campaign gets traction because his conservative values are something that Illinois needs.

We saw Bill Brady and attended his get together after the State Fair program.  Brats were awesome.  We all had our picture taken with Brady with the Effingham Daily News, so look for us in the EDN travel section soon.

We ran out of time to attend Dan Rutherford's get together at Fanny's Tavern, but maybe next time.

Did not get a chance to talk to John Shimkus.  Shimkus has done a great job in DC for us, but we really wanted to ask him why he would tell his district that Cap and Trade would cost the 19th Congressional District $471 million and 3500 jobs in 2012 if it passes the Senate and then support one of the 8 Republicans that voted FOR Cap and Trade - Rep. Mark Kirk.  We called out Shimkus on the radio on Thursday about this endorsement and we believe he owes his district an explanation regarding that endorsement.

I hope 2010 makes every politician wake up and listen to their constituents and to start voting using common sense.
