You've Gotta Be Kidding Me!

Let me get this straight.  Honduras follows their Constitution to oust a President that broke their laws.  As a reward, the White House and the State Dept. condemn Honduras and have put diplomatic pressure on the Honduran government.  Now, the US is going to limit visas from Honduras as another tactic to pressure the Honduran government to return ex-President Zelaya to power.

And now the media, or at least the Washington Post, is calling the Honduran government a "de facto" government.  There is nothing "de facto" about the Honduran government.  The Constitutional processes worked.  Using the term "de facto" hints that the current Honduran government is somehow illegitimate when in reality is completely legal.

On the other side of the globe, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown finally spoke out against the treatment that Megrahi received when he arrived in Libya.  However, when addressing the release of Megrahi, PM Brown said:
"...the decision to release the Libyan was up to Scottish officials."
At some point, PM Brown needs to take credit for what he passively allowed.  The Scottish government is ultimately responsible and answerable to the British Parliament.  To make matters worse, if PM Brown really wanted to, he could have blocked the release of Megrahi, but didn't - and he knows it.  PM Brown needs to own up to his mistake instead of trying to pass the buck to Scottish officials.  The US government is upset, but has it put any diplomatic pressure on England or Scotland?  No.

Now, Colonel Qaddafi is going to travel to New Jersey to camp out on some land owned by Libya.  Is the White House and the State Dept., who are so outraged by Megrahi's release and reception in Libya, going to block the visas for Col. Qaddafi and his traveling party?  Of course not.

The United States government, built on freedom and the ideals of democracy, condemns a mostly peaceful ousting of a lawbreaking President of Honduras via Constitutional rules, but does nothing to the people that released Megrahi, or the people that received him.  Simply amazing.  I guess in the Obama White House, the Monroe Doctrine and the War on Terror ends at the city limits of Washington DC.  Where has Sec. of State Hilary Clinton been in all of this?  She condemned the release of Megrahi, but where is she about Honduras or Col. Qaddafi coming to New Jersey?

The United States foreign policy has reached a new low and has entered into a new class of contradictions.  Support tyrants, but condemn Constitutional democracies.  I'm not surprised considering the complete lack of respect our current government has for our own Constitution.
