Tax For Clunkers?
The Cash For Clunkers program has been proven to be a waste of time and money. Dealers aren't getting paid. Environmentalists are claiming that destroying the clunkers is worse for the environment than having them on the road. Now, all those people would took advantage of "free" money from the government are going to get a rude awakening.
You have to pay taxes on that $3500 or $4500 you got for your clunker! You didn't actually think that the government would give you something for free without getting something in return did you? It's just like those tax rebates we received last year. If you check your IRS returns, you paid tax on that "free" money you received from the government.
How do you think "free" health care will work if the health care reform bill passes? You'll end up paying for it in taxes either in income or some other indirect tax on soda, or junk food. Either way, there is no such thing as a free lunch. Likewise, there is no such thing as free anything from the government - state of federal.

This is hilarious. Not your post, but the fact they are taxing a promotional program. At the dealership I work at, we would take in clunkers, but wouldn't get great feedback from people trading in their cars when we had to tell them the value was less because of taxes. Insane. Thanks Obama administration!
