No Decency Whatsoever
As an editor of a news agency or as CEO of a news agency, you have a responsibility to tell the truth without being afraid. However, I believe this statement is meant more as encouragement to reporters investigating the powers that be. For example, if you are investigating a certain break-in at Watergate, don't be afraid of government late night calls threatening you.
This motto does not, in my humble opinion, give the AP or anyone else the right or permission to publish a photo of one of our soldiers dying on the battlefield. The Defense Secretary Robert Gates asked for the photo not to be published, and the family of the fallen soldier asked the AP not to publish the photo. AP published the photo anyway.
I believe the media overstepped their boundaries on this story. It angers me to the bone that they are willing publish such a photo, and I find it absolutely disgusting behavior from a supposed professional news agency. The AP even had the guts to show up at the home of the parents of the fallen soldier to show them the picture and get comments on it. Absolutely despicable. They should be ashamed to call themselves a news agency.
