Vote Of No Confidence?

Today, Chicago lost its bid for the 2016 Olympics in the first round of voting.  This is despite Oprah, President Obama and the First Lady heading to Copenhagen to push for Chicago's bid.  Considering Obama & Co. took time to go and walked away with nothing may show a larger weakness surrounding his Presidency.  In fact, could we look at this vote today and say that Obama's Presidency has failed only 9 months into his term?  Or does this show that he is not the superhero, mega celebrity that the media thinks he is or did today's pitch show the mega ego that is President Obama?

First, Chicago.  Let's face the facts.  Chicago's reputation is not exactly one of honesty and being a place where fair government is practiced.  Mayor Daley and friends stood to profit handsomely from the Olympics being held in Chicago.   Sad that the games which is to honor the spirit of freedom and peace would be seen as a way to make a buck.  Also sad that Obama went over to Copenhagen in an attempt to repay some favors or friends that have helped him along the way to the White House.

Second, the vote.  The IOC bypassed Chicago for other bids.  Chicago was absolutely shocked thinking that President Obama would bring home the games.  I was listening to WLS 890 this afternoon and it didn't take long for callers and the hosts to allude that the vote was rigged.  Let me get this straight, Chicago was upset about a rigged election (total speculation by the sore losers)?  Wow.  How did Chicago think they were going to beat Rio de Janeiro - a city that is on a continent that has NEVER held an Olympics?  Apparently, Obama's ego is contagious.

Third, the reaction to the loss.  Sen. Roland Burris blamed President George W. Bush.  People close to the administration in Chicago said the vote was rigged.  Bad press from the gang violence and polls showing a divided city could not have helped, so they'll also blame the media at some point.

What does this all mean?  President Obama's approval rating is the lowest since taking office.  Unemployment is at 9.8%.  The budget has a $1.6 trillion shortfall.  Healthcare reform is on the ropes.  The ACORN scandal and Van Jones have raised further questions about the ideological tint of the administration and their policy initiatives.  Now Valarie Jarrett is in the crosshairs of Glen Beck's microphone.  Delaying the reinforcement our Afghan troops (especially angering me considering my future step-son is currently deployed there!!!!)

All these things raise serious questions whether Obama has failed 9 months into his term.  He shows no real leadership but he and Michele have displayed their enormous egos - especially at Copenhagen during their Olympic bid speeches.  They talked about themselves or their lives instead of what the Olympic games actually stand for.  If the international community has rejected Obama, and his handling of other foreign policy issues shows, Obama's charm has worn off and results need to start happening.  But it may be to late.  He may have spent any political capital he had left both at home and abroad.  Obama may have just made himself a lameduck President with 3/4ths of his term in office left.  Add this to the sad state of the economy, we are in for a long 4 years.  History has a tendency to repeat itself and it seems it has decided to give us a redux of Jimmie Carter.  But don't fret too much, we got a Ronald Reagan after we got a Carter - hopefully history will continue to repeat itself...
