In His Image?

During the 2008 Presidential race, John McCain "suspended" his campaign to go back to Washington in order to  help broker the TARP program - ultimately costing him the election and plenty of ridicule for doing what he did.  It seems John McCain has not learned much from that mistake.  In fact, it seems as though John McCain has suspended reality and now sees himself as a leader within the Republican Party.  And he's not just a leader now, but he wants to mold the Republican Party after HIS image?!?!

McCain's plan involves recruiting moderates and pragmatists.  Exactly what is a pragmatist in politics.  In McCain's eyes, a pragmatist is someone willing to sell out his principles in the name of "crossing the aisle" and "getting things done".

Who's one of McCain's recruits?  None other than Rep. Mark Kirk.  We know that Mark Kirk is no conservative by any stretch of the imagination.  McCain wants nothing more than a bunch of sellout politicians that care more about staying in office, placating the leftists in DC, and banishing the conservative base to obscurity.  McCain has actively fundraised for Kirk, and Kirk even has one of McCain's staffers as an "advisor".  Does this not set off alarms in your head or am I the only one???

McCain seems to ignore the conservative outrage of the GOP base.  He also ignores that people want national "leaders" to stay out of races so early because it hampers any other non-establishment candidates from getting traction.  McCain could have won in 2008 if he would have electrified the base of the party.  He tried to do that very thing with Sarah Palin, but then he essentially threw her to the media wolves and also leaked stories about in-fighting between McCain and Palin.

McCain wants people like Kirk who will vote with the Pelosis and Reids to destroy the last vestiges of freedom and capitalism here in the United States.  He wants people that will vote for Cap and Trade.  He wants people that will restrict gun rights.  He wants people that will limit the right of the unborn.  He wants people to vote for granting amnesty to illegal immigrants.  McCain looks at disdain towards conservatives because we hold our ground and refuse to sell out our principles.  McCain ignores the fact that it's always conservatives that have to "compromise", and very rarely do liberals have to compromise.  Don't believe me?  Look to the current health care bill for proof.

The problem here is not conservatism; it's Sen. McCain.  Who died and left McCain to reshape the GOP in his image?  I have as much use for Sen. McCain as I do for Sen. Olympia Snowe.  The tea parties are filled with people that are not GOP or Democrat, but conservative.  Why can't the national leadership get that through their thick skulls?  At least Michael Steele has pulled back his endorsement of Mark Kirk because of a surging Pat Hughes and a recognition that Illinois Republicans don't like Mark Kirk.

Lastly, why are Republicans willing to take election advise from the guy that got beat by a socialist?  Or election advise from a man that bungled his campaign for President?  Or election advise from a man that is trying to hand a massive constituency to the Democrats - illegal immigrants.  McCain's way of thinking may win in Arizona, but it sure doesn't play in Peoria.  McCain is going to have a fight on his hands getting out of his primary and personally, I hope he loses.  The fact that McCain endorses Mark Kirk has just solidified my dislike for Mark Kirk.  The last thing we need is a McCain or Specter representing Illinois in the Senate.
