Crist + Edgar = Why Conservatives Don't Trust "Moderates" (Liberals)
Marco Rubio is absolutely destroying Gov. Charlie Crist in the Florida Republican Senate primary polls. The Real Clear Politics polling average has Rubio crushing Crist by almost 23 points .
Rumor has been running rampant in the media that Crist is going to drop out of the primary and run as an independent. If he does, it just proves that he's a sore loser, and should return any and all GOP contributions given to his campaign. I just wonder what goes through a donor's mind when their guy switches teams, like Arlen Specter. What about all the people that supported him and put in the time to campaign for him, just to have him bail to the other team (or a minor league team at that). A liberal is losing so they sabotage the conservative. Wait a minute, that sounds a little familiar...
Gov. Jim Edgar! Edgar supported his former chief of staff Kirk Dillard for governor during our primary this year. Dillard lost by the slimmest of margins - 193 votes . Will Gov. Edgar support the Republican candidate for Governor Bill Brady? Apparently not.
In an interview on WBEZ Chicago, former Gov. Edgar stated that he thought Bill Brady's budget proposal, in particular the 10% across the board budget cuts, was "naive ". This from a man that later in the interview stated that he was going to "just sit on the sidelines " during the campaign for governor. Because his boy Kirk Dillard didn't win? Didn't stop him from taking a jab at Brady though. But it gets better.
On April 9th, as posted on Illinois Review , former Gov. Edgar stated that Gov. Quinn had "courage" to seek a 33% tax hike, and alluded that Brady was running against a tax hike just "to get elected". Not satisfied with that upper cut, Edgar went for a few body blows by coming out on the side of those that want amnesty for the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in the US. For a man that was going to "sit on the sidelines", Edgar seems to be doing a fantastic job campaigning - for Gov. Quinn.
Edgar's verbal diarreha just proves a long standing point of contention with conservatives in Illinois and elsewhere for that matter: when a liberal or a "moderate" is on the ballot, conservatives are supposed to shut their mouth and vote for their man/woman. However, when a conservative is on the ballot, liberals and "moderates" will do what they can to subvert the conservative's chances at the ballot box. Crist might do his part for the liberals in Florida by going independent, and Edgar is doing his part here in Illinois. I think Edgar has spent too much time in the teacher's lounge with the liberals in academia at the University of Illinois or he's just that out of touch with those he used to govern. I don't know what Crist's problem is. It's either personal, or he's spent a few too many hours under the tanning bed lights.
