Double Standards Everywhere
For those that read my articles on a regular basis, you would know by now that I love to watch South Park. I believe South Park is on the cutting edge of political/social satire and while I don't always agree with what Trey Parker and Matt Stone (South Park's creators and writers) do, I certainly respect their right to say what they do. They have made fun of everyone equally and at other times, protagonists on their show have gotten their just desserts. This past Wednesday, Comedy Central aired a the second part of an episode of South Park that was in the process of making fun of everyone they have ever offended. The Prophet Mohammad was a character on the first part of the episode and was going to be shown on TV. According to orthodox Muslims, the image of Mohammad can never be shown and one of those radical groups, because Matt and Trey did show Mohammad (even though he was in a bear suit) threatened death to the creators, Comedy Central heavily censored the episode. They even went so far as the show a big black box with the word Censored on it where Mohammad was supposed to appear. So let me get this straight. Putting a crucifix in a jar of urine is art and protected speech, but showing Mohammad on TV is grounds for death threats and open to censorship? You're kidding, right? Have we gotten to the point in this country where we can bash Christianity, and every other religion, but Islam is protected?
The other double standard in the news today is President Obama's opposition to the Arizona law making it *gasp* a crime to be an illegal immigrant! Isn't that a radical idea. Being an illegal immigrant is already a federal crime, but now Arizona has mirrored the federal law and will allow state troopers to determine whether the people they stop or investigate are US citizens. President Obama is outraged. In fact, Obama said,
So I guess if you are a Muslim non-voting illegal immigrant, you have more protections that a Christian voting US citizen. Unbelievable.

"[The Arizona law] threaten[s] to undermine basic notions of fairness that we cherish as Americans, as well as the trust between police and their communities that is so crucial to keeping us safe."Really? You mean enforcing the laws that the federal government refuses to enforce or addressing a problem the federal government refuses to take care of? Critics worry that Mexicans will be racially profiled. So the cops can ask if people are illegal, and that's a violation of someone's civil rights. But in Illinois, the police can stop you at anytime to check whether or not you are wearing your seat belt. Not because you were speeding or weaving in traffic, but to CHECK IF YOU ARE WEARING YOUR SEAT BELT! And if you get pulled over because the cops suspect you're a drunk driver? No problems there either. When a suspect is acting in a suspicious manner, and the cops have nothing more to go on but their gut and they get a search warrant for a vehicle, no violation there either? But Arizona can't ask whether you are a US citizen or not. Unbelievable. And the Justice Department is going to monitor the situation? Does he mean the same Justice Department under Eric Holder that let the two Black Panther voter intimidaters go free, but is going to watch for civil rights violations against those that can't vote. Huh?
So I guess if you are a Muslim non-voting illegal immigrant, you have more protections that a Christian voting US citizen. Unbelievable.

Dead on, Brian!!
