National Lemonade Day
This weekend, May 2nd is National Lemonade Day . What's that you say? It's a great program teaching young students entrepreneurial skills. Students that participate study what the costs of their materials will be for a lemonade stand, they set a goal of something they want to buy, and then they set up their lemonade stands and attempt to run their business and reach their goal. Oh, and the students have to give 10% of their profits to charity as well. So students get a chance to learn business skills and learn to be responsible members of a community. Fantastic program! I would be remiss if I didn't give credit to Bob Schulz of Effingham, writer at RepublicanReporter.com, for helping bring this program to Effingham. I'll have to check with Bob, but I think he stated that Effingham is one of 2? communities in Illinois that are participating this year. National Lemonade Day is expanding each year, and it's great to see Effingham being one of the many communities across the nation that are participating!
If you are in the Effingham area on May 1st or May 2nd, and you see some kids out on the corner or out in front of their house selling lemonade, pull over and buy a cup. In fact, buy a cup for everyone in your family! Let's help these kids out and show them how they can run a successful business! You never know, someday because of the skills they learned because of this program you and I might be working for them!!!
