Obama Makes The Case For Domestic Drilling Without Knowing It

But His Liberalness doesn't realize it.

President Obama released 30 million gallons of good ole oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve in an effort to ease the disruption of oil supplies to market due to his Libya campaign.  Many have been questioning the President's move as political to push down prices to take pressure off his dismal approval ratings.  I believe it's completely political, but Obama's move also gives conservatives a push in the argument for more domestic drilling.

Since Obama is adding oil to the market, prices are expected to decline.  Unfortunately, the price decline will only be temporary as OPEC could sit tankers in the Gulf of Mexico as storage facilities until the price of oil begins to climb again.  It's not a wild conspiracy theory; it's happened before.  Just after the 2008 election, this scenario was taking place as tankers sat filled with oil rather than unloading at lower prices.

Of course, we could avoid this situation stated above if we would only drill here, and drill now - no tankers sitting, or better yet, less reliance on those tankers bringing us oil from overseas.

With the oil business comes jobs as well.  The media has been reluctant to report about the job boom in Texas due to the oil industry, but even less reported is what is happening in Williston, ND.  A friend of mine recently took a trip up there and has been chronicling his experience from Williston.  What he has been reporting has been amazing - job surplus, higher wages, and even a lack of housing to keep up with the economic boom.

So let's review real quick.  More oil = less pump price. More domestic oil = less chance of companies and OPEC from inflating prices or withholding supply.  More domestic oil = more jobs and economic boom.

In essence, His Liberalness has inadvertently provided conservatives with an argument for increased domestic production.  I wish somebody would call him out on it.  Ask Carney if the President believes more oil equals an ease in pricing and then follow up with a domestic production question.  I'm sure in Liberal World economic models only apply to their ridiculous ideas of how the economy works.

The left and their allies on the "right" don't want more drilling and furthermore, the government's intervention proves to them that the government is the ultimate dictator of supply and demand in the economy.  The supposed conservatives allied with the left would rather push ethanol and other products to be used in cars, ie Rep. Shimkus' Open Fuel Standards Act.  By the way, the Open Fuel Standards Act is co-sponsored by 13 others....11 of the 13 co-sponsors being Democrats.  Because if we are forced to choose, then that means we want it right?  Sounds like the individual mandate via Obamacare only geared toward cars.  How is that being conservative Rep. Shimkus?

The reality is that market forces control supply and demand.  Yes, the government did add to the supply by releasing some of our oil reserve, but what do you think would happen if the government got out of the way and allowed drilling?  I would be willing to be we would see more instances of Williston, ND and a faster economic recovery than we have seen by the government raising the unemployment rate via billions in stimulus money.

Drill here, drill now.
